It is the oldest tourist camp in Etosha and the administrative centre of the park. Okaukuejo is also home to the Etosha Ecological Institute. A selection of accommodations is available to provide you with high comfort.
The most popular of the accommodation options are the premier waterhole chalets. These overlook the floodlit waterhole at Okaukuejo – the main attraction of this camp. The area is floodlit at night, so guests can enjoy the variety of wildlife surrounding the Okaukuejo Camp. The wildlife congregates and interacts, from lions to rhinos, elephants and antelope.
The spectacle starts at dawn, with animals coming in large numbers to quench their thirst. Then the activity continues throughout the day until late at night. After that, in the early evenings, it is common to have a black rhino, elephant, and lion – all drinking simultaneously!
Seeing that this was the first Etosha campsite, Okaukuejo Camp is synonymous with Etosha National Park. Presently, the camp experience provides up-to-date facilities. Campers have electricity, a braai area and water, a shared kitchen and hot showers.
