Duwisib Castle is a historic building set in the beautiful southeast of Namibia. The castle has a lot of character because of the antique furniture and decor. What’s more, the surrounding hills make for a great view from the high towers. Here, guests can enjoy B&B accommodation in comfortable rooms inside the castle. There’s also the option to rough it and book camping.
Furthermore, Duwisib Castle is conveniently located between Fish River Canyon or Sesriem and the Namibian desert. Or on route between Helmering Hausen and Betta.
The castle boasts unique architecture from locally sourced materials. Stonemasons from all over the world built the castle. The German army officer Baron von Wolf intended to gift the newly built castle to his bride in the early 1900s.
Apart from the striking architecture, there are many antiques reminiscent of the era inside the castle. The decor and museum pieces make this feel a bit like a time-traveling experience. Furthermore, the furniture was shipped from Germany and the woodwork was done by German, Swedish and Belgian carpenters.
This labor of love was a challenge as the Duwisib Castle was literally in the middle of nowhere in those days. Afrikaans farmers helped cart the materials and furniture with their ox-wagons. The castle was completed in two years, making it quite a feat!
The castle has a knight’s hall, a gallery, dining rooms and the private rooms of the Von Wolfs with the original furniture. They collected furniture popular at the time. Without a doubt, guests love the stunning paintings, copperplate engravings, photographs and ornamental weapons on display.
